Some of these names, unfortunately, are used to deceive
the consumer. The words "Simulated”, “organic”,
“fashionable”, “of style”, “false” (faux), “, “done
by the regional man”, “Majorca”, or other names, are
all terms that are applied to imitation or false pearls.
Most of the experts in pearls can appreciate the difference
between a imitation and an authentic one with seeing
it. Nevertheless, thanks to sophisticated manufacturing
techniques and completion, for the consumer can be difficult
to distinguish at first between an authentic pearl and
a good imitation.
A way easy to find out is making the “TEST OF
THE TOOTH”:
- If a string of imitation pearls is touched with
the teeth, the tact will be smooth.
- A string of authentic pearls will feel a little
sandy. This “sandy” sensation comes from
the crystalline structure of the nacre that forms
the pearl then its authenticity.+BACK
