From the mussel known as the Pinctada
Margaritifera Oyster that generates a natural dark color
pearl, known as a the Black Pearl of Tahití,
doing reference to it's first findings. These pearls were
commercialized only in big sizes, destining
the production of smaller sizes to the reintegration
inside the oyster for the generation of other greater
one, or it's elimination.
On the other hand, during
the past few years, they have been a burst into the market
of black pearls in small and medium sizes, with an amazing
variety and quality. Mainly these pearls are Freshwater Pearls,
tha natural violet color, obtained from the mussel called Ikekou - Unio Margaretafera
Oyster - and also the Cumingi de Hyriopsys both from
fresh waters, that later have been radiated to obtain
colors of darker tones.
It means that are pearls cultivated by traditional fresh
water methods that later have been put under an irradiation
treatment, so that the nacre crystals are reoriented
generating the effect of the dark colors, very similar
to the natural color obtained by the Black Thaitinian
Pearl. The obtained colors are intrinsic of the pearl,
and therefore permanent, reason why they maintain the
gem category.
